Cashless Zakat Fitrah this Ramadan with Boost

Homegrown lifestyle e-wallet Boost and Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) have teamed up to give Malaysians a cleaner, safer and a seamless experience to fulfil their zakat obligations this Ramadan. Through this partnership, Boost is appointed as an official zakat collection agent by LZS which will give Muslims in Selangor the convenience to make zakat payments anywhere, anytime, easily and efficiently.

With a Movement Control Order (MCO) in place to battle the COVID-19 outbreak, many Malaysians have turned to e-wallets for making payments. This is also in line with the World Health Organization’s recommendation to avoid using physical banknotes that can carry bacteria and viruses. The partnership between Boost and LZS hopes to bring peace of mind for Muslims in Selangor knowing they can fulfill their religious obligations from the safety of their homes amidst the coronavirus crisis.

“Boost as an official zakat collection agent not only supports LZS’s aim to innovate and drive cashless zakat payments in the state, but also allows us to expand on and build a robust cashless ecosystem using e-wallets in Selangor. We hope that through this partnership, more Malaysians will discover that e-wallets are a very convenient and safe payment method and will help make the process of Zakat payment more efficient and simpler during this holy month,” said Mohd Khairil Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Boost.

A zakat tile has been added as a new feature in the Boost app, giving Muslims in Selangor the ability to pay for two types of zakat – ‘Zakat Fitrah’ and ‘Zakat Harta’ with a few screen taps. Effective today, users can start paying for ‘Zakat Harta’, however for ‘Zakat Fitrah’ payment will be made available on the 24th of April which is the first day of Ramadan. Users will be able to add a zakat account by simply providing their IC number, name, and mobile number before making a payment. Users will also be able to view information on ‘Harga Beras’ from within Boost. Upon successful payment, users will receive a receipt via e-mail which can be used for individual tax rebate purposes.

“Lembaga Zakat Selangor is delighted to enable Malaysians to fulfil their Islamic duty in a clean, simple and innovative way using Boost e-wallet. As we prepare to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan and with many vulnerable groups affected by the global pandemic, it remains our duty now more than ever to uplift each other especially through tough times. It is my hope that this partnership will enable the people of Selangor to easily and conveniently put their faith into practice,” said Tuan Haji Saipolyazan M Yusop, Chief Executive Officer of Lembaga Zakat Selangor.

“The Zakat you give is very important to ensure the welfare and needs of the underprivileged in Selangor are preserved and are able to lead a better life especially during this crisis,” added Saipolyazan.

Continuing the trajectory of making e-wallets a growing part of our lifestyle, Boost is developing more seamless and efficient payments and collections processes across a multitude of services. The partnership between Boost and LZS is also expected to expand soon with works already underway.

“We hope this partnership will help increase digital inclusivity, adoption and awareness in Selangor. We also look forward to taking this partnership further with upcoming plans to have Boost as a payment method on the Lembaga Zakat Selangor website, physical counters and ‘Zakat on Wheels’,” concluded Khairil.

Apart from Lembaga Zakat Selangor, Boost will also soon make available zakat payment options for Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah and Wilayah Persekutuan.
