Ed Sheeran tops Spotify Most Streamed Music 2017 list

Ed Sheeran sang his way to head Spotify’s list of most streamed music 2017 in Malaysia and globally. His song ‘Shape of You’ from the album ‘Divide’ was a big hit among Spotify’s 45 million monthly listeners.

“Ed Sheeran absolutely dominated this year with the release of his record-breaking album, Divide. There is no doubt that 2017 was The Year of Ed Sheeran, and we are thrilled that so many millions of music fans have discovered, listened to, and shared his music on Spotify. Congratulations to Ed on an amazing achievement,” said Stefan Blom, Spotify’s Chief Content Officer.

Hip Hop also continues to play a major role in music listening around the world. Overall, the genre uptake increased 74% over the past year according to Spotify data. Latin music was up 110%, with two Latin tracks hitting #1 on Spotify for the first time: ‘Despacito’ and ‘Mi Gente’. Not surprisingly, this year also saw a huge growth in K-Pop globally.
