MyIX Wins NetAssist Praise on Lowest Port Fees

NetAssist (M) Sdn Bhd, one of Malaysia’s leading cybersecurity companies, has praised Malaysia Internet Exchange (MYIX), for offering lowest port fees with capability of reaching all Malaysian internet users in a single connection.

“What is more, MYIX is able to keep Malaysian Internet traffic local by promoting and allowing direct connectivity among local independent service providers (ISPs),” said its chief executive officer Hon Fun Ping.

NetAssist joins tech giants China Mobile International and Netflix which have also recently joined MYIX.

MYIX is an initiative under the Malaysian Communications Multimedia Commission through the operations of local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to connect and exchange Internet traffic locally.

“What is more, MYIX is able to keep Malaysian Internet traffic local by promoting and allowing direct connectivity among local independent service providers (ISPs),” said Hon.

To date, MyIX has 110 members and peers with 100% coverage for both fixed and mobile service providers.

By peering with MyIX, local traffic is kept domestically. Therefore, the boomerang traffic is kept at a minimum and therefore improving latency among peering operators.

In addition, ISPs will be able to ensure better and more efficient traffic handling, improved quality of service, and ultimately higher take-up of broadband among consumers. As a result, end users can have a better and faster experience in accessing local content.

And as substantial percentage of local traffic have been routed via MyIX away from international bandwidth links, all operators especially the smaller ISPs enjoy cost savings due to domestic peering.

MyIX recently completed its network refresh to 100 Gps port capabilities. The upgrade would enable Malaysia’s bandwidth expansion for the next five years, in addition to managing growing Internet usage.

Advanced cybersecurity solutions

Meanwhile, Hon said that demand for cybersecurity solutions is increasing due to local companies becoming more proactive about cyberattacks.

“NetAssist is renowned for our advanced endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions,” said Hon.

“EDR is a rapidly growing area of cybersecurity, augmenting standard endpoint products and providing better protection against sophisticated attacks,” he added.

“What NetAssist is good at is our ability to deliver industry-leading security services that provide our clients with improved visibility, enhanced detection capabilities and quicker incident response. Our unique managed service approach is much sought after due to an increasing shortage of proficient cybersecurity talent and resources,” Hon further said.

NetAssist is also collaborating with F-Secure Corporation and has come up with forward-thinking cybersecurity strategies for SMEs throughout Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region.

“Our partnership with F-Secure include deploying lightweight intrusion detection sensors for endpoints, networks and decoy servers that are deployed across the client’s IT infrastructure. The sensors monitor activities initiated by the attackers, and stream all information to our cloud in real-time,” said Hon.

“Meanwhile, our cloud-based service hunts for anomalies in the data by using a combination of advanced technologies, such as real-time behavioral analytics, big data analytics and reputational analytics. Anomalies are hunted from two perspectives: known and unknown malicious behavior,” he added.

“The use of different types of analytics ensures that attackers are not able to remain undetected, even when using evasion tactics designed to fool specific detection methods.”
