UiTM Tops F-Secure MDEC Cybersecurity Competition 2021

Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) emerged as the grand champion of the F-Secure-Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Cybersecurity Competition 2021 held recently.

After an intense grand final when the team had to compete against nine other finalist teams, UiTM’s team from the science, computer and mathematics faculty were finally crowned champions.

Calling themselves ‘Team H0j3n’, the team comprised Muhammad Ali Akbar B. Radzali, Muhammad Idham Bin Idris and Iman Irfan Bin Hisshamudin (pic above).

Throughout the competition, participants were presented with unique challenges resembling real-world threats faced by cybersecurity experts.

A total of 75 teams from 18 different universities had participated in the competition.

Teams which had made it to the finals were from Asia Pacific University, UOW Malaysia KDU, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Monash University Malaysia and another team UiTM.

F-Secure Tactical Defence Unit senior manager Calvin Gan said that the competition was hosted to further nurture Malaysia’s next generation of cybersecurity talents.

“Malaysian cybersecurity talent are among the region’s best which is why our Tactical Defence Unit is based in Kuala Lumpur to complement our global operations based out of its Helsinki headquarters,” said Gan.

“Over the years, we have recruited numerous Malaysian lab engineers and support staff to service the various markets across the Asia-Pacific region,” he said.
